In a significant development for India’s energy security, the tanker Shenlong has successfully delivered crude oil to Mumbai Port after crossing the volatile Strait of Hormuz. The ship, carrying more than 1,35,000 metric tonnes of Saudi crude, is the first India-bound vessel to transit the route since tensions escalated in West Asia following military strikes involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Maritime traffic in the region has dropped sharply amid fears of attacks on merchant ships and rising insurance costs. The tanker reportedly went dark during the dangerous stretch, switching off its tracking system before resurfacing on maritime databases. Its safe arrival offers temporary relief for India, the world’s third-largest oil consumer, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical energy corridors for global crude supply.
