Indian Railways has ordered an inquiry into the Panna–Khajuraho railway line alignment in Madhya Pradesh, citing safety concerns over six sharp curves. The route, approved in 2021, saw over 54,000 trees cut before being scrapped. Officials say a new alignment is being planned, requiring additional forest land and possible felling of more trees. A technical committee will investigate design flaws and approvals. The railways have also ordered environmental mitigation measures, including compensatory plantation ahead of the monsoon season.
