Delhi witnessed intense protests after the High Court granted conditional bail to Unnao rape convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The decision triggered strong reactions from the survivor and her family, who said the order has revived fear and trauma linked to past violence and intimidation. The survivor’s mother publicly demanded capital punishment, saying justice has failed her family repeatedly. Protesters, including women’s rights activists, questioned how a life sentence could be suspended in a case that symbolised brutality, abuse of power, and systemic failure. Despite restrictions barring Sengar from approaching the survivor, the family cited past incidents where they believe his influence led to deadly consequences. While the survivor has been given CRPF protection, her mother said security for other family members was withdrawn earlier this year.
