Uttar Pradesh: Gazipur prepares for urban local body polls

The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission on Sunday announced urban local body polls in two phases, on May 4 and 11, three months after the High Court quashed the government's draft notification providing OBC reservation in the elections.On Sunday evening, Gazipur District Magistrate Aryka Akhori and SP Omveer Singh, along with his team, removed all the political banners that were on display to ensure the protocol of Model Code of Conduct. Candidates will also be able to conduct their election campaign as per the instructions by the Election Commission. The date of civic body elections has been issued by the State Election Commission, in the first phase, municipal elections are to be held in Ghazipur. In the process of municipal elections, the date of process of filing nomination has been fixed from April 11 to April 17. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be on April 18 and one can ask for withdrawal of nomination on April 20. Counting of votes will be held on May 13.
