Uttarakhand: Women in Helang village of Chamoli 'harassed' for cutting grass, say won’t give up right on land

Some women were detained by cops for cutting grass from a government land on which a sports ground is to be constructed. However, women involved in the protest say they have nurtured the land by planting trees and they won’t give up their rights on this land. They say they have no other place to cut feed for their cattle. Earlier, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a probe into the alleged harassment of the women after a video of cops detaining the women had gone viral. The Chamoli DM, however, says that action against the women had to be taken after they began opposing infrastructure projects in the village.
