An Indian Navy fighter aircraft MiG 29K veered off
the runway at Goa International Airport during takeoff and burst into flames. According
to naval officials, the pilot, a trainee, ejected safely but suffered
non-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, during
a routine training sortie. The crash prompted the Indian Navy to close down the
runway for safety purposes. Airports Authority of India officials at Goa
International Airport said that commercial flights would be delayed till the
runway was cleared.
