According to 2020 Forbes ranking, earnings of world's top athletes dropped for the first time in four years due to Covid-19 pandemic. Several sporting events, including Tokyo Olympics, were cancelled or postponed for the first time since World War II. The 100 highest-paid athletes earned a combined $3.6 billion in 2020, which is 9% below 2019 and the first decline in their earnings since 2016. At number one is Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who earned $106.3 million in 2020, out of which $6.3 million was from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $100 million. At number two is Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo,who earned $105 millionin 2020, out of which $60 million was from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $45 million. At number 3 is Argentinian soccer player Lionel Messi, who earned $104 million in 2020, out of which $72 million was from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $32 million. At number 4 is Brazilian soccer player Neymar, who earned $95.5 million in 2020, out of which $70.5 million was from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $25 million. At number 5 is US basketball player LeBron James, who earned $88.2 million in 2020, out of which $28.2 million was from his salary/winnings,while his income from endorsements stood at $60 million. At number 6 is US basketball player Stephen Curry, who earned $74.4 million in 2020, out of which was $30.4 million from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $44 million. At number 7 is US basketball player Kevin Durant, who earned $63.9 million in 2020, out of which was $28.9 million from his salary/winnings, while his income from endorsements stood at $35 million.
