As West Bengal gears up for a high-stakes political contest, senior political analyst Neerja Chowdhury has offered a sharp assessment of the state’s evolving political dynamics. According to Chowdhury, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continues to maintain a strong grip on her support base despite facing years of anti-incumbency. She said Mamata has managed to dominate the political narrative while confronting an aggressive campaign by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The analyst also pointed out that the BJP views Bengal as strategically crucial because a win here could influence its national prospects ahead of the 2029 Indian general election. At the same time, Chowdhury warned that certain organisational weaknesses could hinder the party’s ambitions.
