Can BJP Secure a Third Consecutive Term in Assam? | Assam Polls 2026

As Assam votes on April 9, the BJP-led NDA is poised for a potential third straight term in the Assembly. Strategic alliances with AGP and BPF, delimitation that reshapes constituencies, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s popularity, polarising immigration narratives, a fragmented opposition, and well-managed internal party dynamics all favour the NDA. Muslim-majority constituencies have shrunk, making opposition votes less impactful, while grassroots penetration via the BJP-RSS machinery ensures effective voter outreach. Emotional and symbolic issues are unlikely to shift votes, and despite imported candidates, the party maintains organisational discipline. These six factors combine to give the BJP a strong edge, although local contests and constituency-level dynamics may still create surprises.
