Violence in West Bengal’s Malda has escalated into a major political and legal flashpoint ahead of the Assembly elections. The unrest began over allegations of voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and culminated in seven judicial officers being held hostage for hours.The Supreme Court has strongly criticised the state administration and ordered a probe by central agencies, including the NIA or CBI. Police have arrested multiple individuals, including AIMIM leader Mofakkerul Islam and ISF-linked figures, adding a political dimension to the incident.With protests spreading to multiple districts and security tightened across the region, Malda is emerging as a key battleground where issues of voter identity, governance, and political mobilisation are colliding ahead of the polls.
