BJP’s Nitin Nabin visited the historic Dakshineswar Kali Temple in North 24 Parganas as part of his organisational tour ahead of West Bengal assembly elections. Nabin alleged that Hindus need high court permission to set up puja pandals while Muslims can freely offer namaz, calling it unfair.Reacting to these claims, TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of undermining citizens’ rights and being anti-Bengali. She also warned that the BJP’s actions could escalate, including potential threats to voter rights and citizenship via the NRC, and advised TMC candidates to be cautious while filing nominations. With both parties seeking to consolidate their voter base on issues of religious rights, voter identity, and citizenship, the coming weeks are expected to be crucial in the run-up to the assembly elections.
