A tigress kept officials from three states on their toes for three weeks before she could be tranquilised and brought back to her ‘home’ in Odisha. In the process, Zeenat has focused the spotlight on India’s ambitious translocation plans aimed at improving the gene pool through tiger dispersal. Home to 70% of the world’s tigers in the wild, India has big plans on tiger translocation. But tiger numbers are not the only measure of success and Zeenat’s exploration holds important lessons for tiger conservation.
