Five-times champions Mumbai Indians thrashed Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs on Wednesday to eliminate them from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and keep alive their own hopes of making the final.

Seamer Akash Madhwal claimed five wickets while conceding only five runs in his 3.3 overs to skittle out Lucknow for 101 in 16.3 overs after Mumbai had posted 182-8.

Though LSG once again failed to go beyond playoffs, what irked LSG fans in particular the most was their designated No 2 batsman Deepak Hooda’s awful form this season. He could only muster 84 runs in 12 games at 7.64.
In the eliminator, Hooda yet again failed to stand on the captain and team's hopes. Apart from scoring just 15, he was also involved in three run-outs.
Marcus Stoinis smashed 40 off 27 balls but collided with batting partner Hooda while running between wickets and his run-out triggered a collapse Lucknow could not stem. The innings fell further apart with two more run outs sending back Krishnappa Gowtham and Hooda.
It should be noted that Hooda had a dream season with LSG last year, amassing 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.67.
Forgetting his contribution in the past, fans criticized the LSG batter, via memes, for his poor form this year.
