The Boroughs’ finale explained: Who dies, what happens to the retirement home - all you need to know!
The Duffer brothers brought back another supernatural series to the famed OTT platform and fans cannot seem to get enough of it. The story, which revolves around a group of senior citizens who have to save their retirement home from a supernatural monster targeting their fellow residents, has become a top rated series since its release 2 days ago. Read ahead to know more about the show and what happens at the end.

What happens during ‘The Boroughs’ season 1

The series goes on as Sam Cooper joins a popular retirement home. However, things are not what they seem as he sees his first friend at the home getting murdered by a supernatural monster. He then bands together with his neighbours who have seen similar things happen in order to find out what is happening and save everyone before its too late. Later on in the series it is revealed that there is a large group of monsters that is feeding off of the cerebrospinal fluid of the people living there while they rest and sleep.

Who is behind the killings at The Boroughs

The creators of the retirement homes, Blaine and Anneliese Shaw along with a couple of other workers, are the real reason behind the deaths and the existence of the monsters. They all belong to another monster known as Mother, whose golden blood grants permanent youth. The Shaws created the retirement home in order to ensure that they would have access to Mother’s blood, while her army has an endless supply of food in the form of the senior citizens there.

How does ‘The Boroughs’ end?

Titled ‘Triple Audible’, the finale of the first season shows Sam turning everything around in their plan to kill Mother and her band of army that is killing and feeding on the residents of the retirement home. He tells everyone that instead of killing her, they need to save Mother. Wally starts off the plan and sneaks Mother out when the group home is celebrating their 75th anniversary. He meets up with Sam, Art, Judy, Renee, Paz and Sam's daughter Claire. Wally wants to leave the Boroughs and rid the world of disease with Mother’s blood. He tells everyone that “I'm going to use it for good.”However, Sam stops him and tells him that he can communicate with her, and that she wants to be taken back to the place where she was born. She wishes to die on her own terms, back under a tree that is said to be located in a cave in the middle of the New Mexico desert. They use the underground tunnels to get Mother out of the retirement home, while Art and Judy stay back to stop Blaine and her army. On the way, she tells Sam that she wants to free her children, to which Renee and Paz say that they will free the monsters and meet up with everyone at another check point. However, an attack from Blaine and her people reveals that they are being herded. They comment about how they have no weapons, however Claire shares that she had fixed the contraption that they had made to kill the monsters in order to use it on the Shaws as they were surviving on the same blood. When the Shaws come to Sam’s home, the group is ready and opens the garage door. As they point the device at their enemies, Sam and Claire comment, “Welcome to The Boroughs, we hope you have the time of your life.”However, the gang is not all saved, as Judy, who had been taken hostage by Blaine and as stabbed, dies in Art’s arms. Though Mother watches all of this and uses her magic to bring Judy back to life, much to everyone’s relief. As Sam takes Mother to the base of the tree, Blaine also arrives, whose shell of a body had drifted down the road earlier, making everyone think that he had died. He beats Sam up to take revenge for his wife’s death. As Mother tries to help Sam, he refuses and says that she needs to do what she wanted to. Mother’s body starts glowing as her children gather around her. Blaine sees all this and comments that he does not want to die; however, it is too late, as Mother’s body explodes. As Blaine dies, Sam meets his deceseased wife one last time, as a gift from Mother. The gang is later shown at Sam’s house, all having a barbeque together.
