Dressing sense: Ekta knows what audience wants and accordingly, she gives it to them through her TV shows' content. But she often makes headlines with her choice of clothes that she flaunts at various events. She is often seen wearing costumes which either do not seem comfortable or are not appreciated by the onlookers.

Nudity clause in contract: Ekta Kapoor has added a nudity clause to her contract to ensure that actors, who sign up with her, do not object to any intimate scene or provocative dialogue in the script. The Central Board of Film Certification's snipping scissors may have scared away several filmmakers, but Ekta is going ahead with an erotica titled XXX. And to ensure that none of the debutants working on the project can later object to shooting explicit scenes or mouthing titillating lines, the producer has inserted what is being referred to as the 'nudity clause' in their contract.

Jodha Akbar controversy: Jodha Akbar is Ekta's first show which ran into controversy when the Rajput Kshatriya Akhil Bharatiya Chatariya Sabha protested saying that the serial is projecting false information about Jodha marrying Akbar to save her father’s kingdom. The serial saw protests from some other communities as well, who demanded that the show should be taken off-air, and claimed that a person called Jodha never existed. In fact, the topic became so bad that the protesters even burnt Ekta's effigy.

Rajeev Khandelwal against Ekta Kapoor: Rajeev Khandelwal, who shot to fame as Sujal in Balaji Telefilms' serial Kahiin Toh Hoga, openly stated that he did not need Ekta Kapoor to make it big. A livid Ekta said that she would never work with him again. Both Ekta and Rajeev did not reveal what actually went wrong between them. The relationship further took an ugly turn after Rajeev claimed that he did not like Ekta's TV programming. The fight with Rajeev continued for a long time, but gradually they patched up.

Smriti Irani walks out of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi: Smriti and Ekta's relationship has had its newsworthy moments. It was reported that Smriti Irani quit Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2007 after a spat with Ekta Kapoor. She was later replaced by Gautami Kapoor but the ratings dropped, prompting the producer to bring the original Tulsi (Smriti) back on the show. As expected, Smriti's re-entry in 2008 made national headlines. Smriti was again asked to be a part of Ekta'a promotional show Ek Thi Naayika however, Smriti refused to do the show owing her association with Indian politics.

Drishyam controversy: The makers of the Malayalam film Drishyam had run into troubled waters. There were rumours suggesting that the film Drishyam is based on the Japanese Novel 'The Devotion of suspect X' written by Keigo Higashino, and Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor sent a legal notice to the makers of Drishyam claiming that she owns the copyright of making the film based on the novel. This led to a series of controversies regarding the film.
