Dia Mirza meets UN Leaders; says, ‘Women in government are more likely to pass climate change policies’
Indian actor, and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza marked International Women’s Day alongside fellow UN representatives and António Guterres, highlighting the crucial role women play in climate leadership and storytelling.
In a video shared on social media, Mirza stressed that women in leadership positions often drive stronger environmental policies, noting that “women in government are more likely to pass climate change policies.”
Reflecting on the evolution of women’s representation in Indian cinema, Dia Mirza also shared "When I was a kid, there were feminist filmmakers who were mostly male. We had Shyam Benegal, we had Govind Nihalani, we had those filmmakers making extraordinary films with women like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patel and other iconic actors. But I think what has happened in the last 25 years is that we've seen an advent and representation of women across formats, across vocations. So you have more women writers, more women directors, more women producers, more women cinematographers, editors, and people kind of really championing storytelling. And it makes a lot of difference because when only men were writing women's stories, their perspective was visible. Today, women's perspective is visible and understandable. And I think that is what really creates a real shift”
On the work front, Dia Mirza will next be seen in ‘Operation Safed Sagar,’ ‘Ikka,’ an untitled film directed by Kanwal Sethi, and an upcoming web series with Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
