The delegation of US President Donald Trump was spied on by China during his two-day visit to Beijing last week, according to independent blogger and author Jennifer Zeng.
Zeng accused China of using "disguised" military personnel to monitor foreign dignitaries and technology executives who were part of the US delegation.
In a series of social media posts, she alleged that a server standing directly behind billionaire Elon Musk at a state banquet in Beijing was “a highly decorated active-duty Chinese military officer.”
She added that one of the waitresses standing behind Musk, the world's richest person, was "Major Cheng Cheng," whom she described as an "elite battalion commander who had reportedly helped draft operational manuals for Chinese military ceremonies."
Zheng further claimed: “I think Cheng Cheng had a gun or something under her red dress.”
She also shared an image of two female servers from the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) state banquet honouring Trump, claiming that photos of the same women “in uniform” were being widely circulated on Chinese social media.
TOI could not independently verify the claim.
This is not the first time Zeng has accused Beijing of espionage. In 2023, she alleged that the CCP played a role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Zheng said that China’s “purpose was to frame India, creating discord between India and the West.”
The killing of Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, had triggered diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Ottawa.
Trump’s visit to Beijing marked the first trip by a US president to China since November 2017, when the Republican leader — then serving his first term — visited the Asian nation.
