Mexican president's eldest son denounces publication of his phone number, says threats received

NEW DELHI: The eldest son of Mexico's president has revealed that his phone number was leaked on social media, leading to threats against him and his family.
This incident occurred shortly after President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador disclosed the phone number of a reporter from The New York Times, who had written an article about an investigation into allegations that Lopez had accepted money from drug traffickers.
The president's son, Jose Ramon Lopez Beltran, expressed his concern on X (formerly known as Twitter), describing the publication of his phone number as an act of vengeance and emphasizing the potential danger it poses to his family.

The identity of the individual responsible for making the number public remains unknown. Lopez Beltran stated that the incident began with a letter containing threats and falsehoods targeting his father and him, without providing further details.
Mexico's president, while visiting Mazatlan, condemned the actions of those involved, deeming it embarrassing. He also criticized The New York Times report, asserting that he will not waver in his commitment to upholding liberty and justice.
In addition, Lopez Beltran disclosed that this was the second time his phone number has been leaked and revealed that he has been subjected to harassment through constant surveillance by cameras and drones wherever he has lived.
He attributed Friday's incident to the New York Times reporter, insinuating that she shared her number with the expectation that the president would respond to her slanderous claims.
