Watch: Hot air balloon crash lands on tree near Camperdown police station in South Africa

KWAZULU-NATAL: A hot air balloon in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal narrowly avoided trouble after the pilot managed to make an emergency landing. The video going viral on the social media shows startling footage of the balloon descending in slow motion. The balloon is seeing meandering towards the ground and then crashed in a nearby tree before the pilot made a controlled landing.

In the video, the balloon's low altitude and subsequent contact with a tree are clearly visible, leading to its towering descent. The visual footage of the event has attracted significant attention online.


After crashing with the tree the balloon slowly drifts towards the road and completes deflates.
A person in the video could be heard saying, "balloon collapsed in front of my house".
As per the reports, ALS paramedics confirmed that no injuries were sustained.

Earlier on January 14, 2024, four people died and one was critically injured after a hot air balloon crash-landed in the southern Arizona desert. A media statement from Eloy Police Department read, “This morning, a devastating incident occurred in our community. At around 7:50 AM, a hot air balloon crash-landed in the desert area east of Sunshine Blvd. and Hanna Rd. in Eloy, resulting in four fatalities and one critical injury.”

The balloon was carrying 13 people in total – eight skydivers, four passengers and a pilot. As per the reports as many as eight skydivers leaped from the aircraft before the crash. While one person died at the scene, the others died in the hospital.
