Bangla anti-corruption commission chief quits
DHAKA: The chief of the anti-graft watchdog of Bangladesh, who led a much-publicized drive against corruption in the country during the previous military-backed non-party regime, resigned on Thursday indicating differences with the Awami League-led government.
"You all know the situation. There is no need to explain it again. In the current circumstances, a new leadership is needed for the ACC to gear up its activities," Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury told reporters.

"There are still chances for the fight against corruption. I hope the new leadership will take steps," he added.
Chowdhury has sent his resignation letter to the President and cited "personal reasons" behind his move, local media reported.
Chowdhury has been in the top post of the ACC for two years. Under his leadership, the anti-graft body, vested with special powers by the interim government, arrested and jailed more than 150 politicians corruption charges, including the incumbent premier and Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina and her arch-rival Khaleda Zia.
