The agreement comes as Mexico commits to deploying 10,000 soldiers along the US-Mexico border to curb fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration while officials from both nations continue negotiations.
Trump described the conversation with Sheinbaum as “very friendly” and confirmed the deal in a post on X, stating that the troops would be “specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants into our Country.”
The temporary pause provides both sides with time to work toward a broader agreement, though Trump made no indication of whether further tariff threats would be off the table after the 30-day period.
