Pandya, lower order take India to 600
Five overs into the second session, Sri Lanka bowlers must've felt restricting India to a total below 550 was a reality. But Hardik Pandya scored a breezy half-century on Test debut and combined with the tail to frustrate the hosts and stretch India's total to 600 before being caught for a 49-ball 50. India got an early breakthrough with Umesh Yadav trapping Dimuth Karunaratne lbw with an inswinger for 2. The left-hander went for the review and as the replays showed he was hit dead straight in front of the stumps. Upul Tharanga then clattered three fours in an over of Umesh to prove the surface is still a batsman's paradise and was unbeaten on 14-ball 24 alongwith Danushka Gunathilaka who is batting on 12. Sri Lanka took tea at 38/1, trailing by 562 runs.

India 503/7 after Pradeep takes five at lunch
The second morning of the first Test against India began positively for Sri Lanka after a forgetful Wednesday when nothing went their way. Two wickets in the space of just about four overs hinted a fightback before Ravichandran Ashwin (47) seemed to have restored the order. But, as the lunch break approached, two more wickets made it the most productive session for the hosts with India 503/7 on Day 2 of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
