Hardik Pandya was the last man to be dismissed as he was caught for 50 off 49 with India all out for 600 in their first innings.

He came to bat at no 8, had a nervous start but quickly came into his own, smacking fours and sixes with ease en route to a half-century on Test debut.

Md Shami launched one from Herath straight over long-on for the first six of the match. One over later, Pandya, who was put down on 4, clattered two sixes off Nuwan Pradeep to move to 27 off 29.

The second morning of the first Test against India began positively for Sri Lanka after a forgetful Wednesday when nothing went their way.
