Pune's Mahalakshmi Lawns in Kharadi grooved with energy on January 10 as
Sonu Nigam turned his Satrangi Re concert into a kaleidoscope of nostalgia, dance, and pure fan love. Hosted by NR talent and event management, in co-ordination with BookMyShow, the show lived up to its rainbow-themed name, blending Sonu's timeless tracks with iconic oldies in fresh, foot-tapping mashups. From drone-assisted confetti cleanups to moonwalks, it was a night that had 10,000+ voices singing along under the stars.
The evening kicked off with a burst of color—literally!
As confetti rained down after the opening numbers, drones swooped in like futuristic helpers, swiftly clearing the stage with Sonu’s guidance. It was a slick touch that set the playful tone for Satrangi Re, where Sonu mixed his hits with classics, creating a "satrangi rainbow" of melodies. One standout moment came during a medley when he cheekily twisted the lines of
Lata Mangeshkar and
Kishore Kumar's soulful ‘Lena hoga janam humein kahin kahin baar’ into "Aana hoga Pune humein kahin kahin baar." Punekars burst into jubilation.
Sonu didn't hold back on the showmanship either. Midway through the high-energy Bijuria, he peeled off his coat, and busted out slick dance moves, including a moonwalk that rivaled MJ himself. The arena went wild, phones lighting up like a sea of stars as fans captured the moment. His interactivity was off the charts—bantering with the crowd, taking song requests, and even joking about Pune's notorious winter dust.
He says, "Kal bhi mera show hai, kahin gala kharab na hojaye!" Laughter rippled through the venue, turning the concert into a giant family reunion.
Adding emotional depth, Sonu delivered Sandese Aate Hai right on cue, just days before the Border 2 release and ahead of Republic Day on January 26. Backed by powerful visuals of the Indian Army, he poured his heart into the tribute, fists pumping as the crowd joined in a resounding chorus. It was a poignant romance to patriotism.
True to his improvisational genius, Sonu handled duets solo-style, nailing the female parts in tracks like Aaj Ki Raat with uncanny precision and flair. No backing singer needed, the Padma Shri awardee's voice is a one-man orchestra. The night built to an unforgettable close with Kal Ho Naa Ho, his iconic heartbreak anthem, fused brilliantly with Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin from Agneepath. As the final notes faded, Sonu bowed deeply, and autographed dozens of fans’ t-shirts, scrap books, jackets, among other things.
In a city that thrives on live music, Satrangi Re reaffirmed Sonu Nigam's status as India's ultimate showman. Here's hoping he keeps that promise to return.
