Full Monty, anyone?

The only depth to a woman might be her cleavage. Or so Monty from Life in a...Metro would have us believe.

Sparks fly, sure between Shruti (Konkona) and Monty (Irrfan). Shruti displays more depth than just her cleavage and 'nips' Monty's ideas in the bud. That's perverse, she declares. Her dream guy would never do that. The uncouth suitor who will say it like it is tickles our funnybone onscreen but would we ever wish to hunt a full Monty down online? Question is, are there any full Montys out there, trawling the countless matrimonial sites?

The popular website shaadi.com quotes that an estimated 5,000 new profiles go up on the site everyday. And yes, a thorough screening is done by the team of 100 people before profiles are posted. "We cater mostly to the urban group — young, upwardly mobile and professional in nature within the age group of 21-35, very much like the people portrayed in the film. And since ours is a serious website used by members to search for their life partners, we are careful about screening resumés that seem to have been posted just for the sake of fun," says Vibhash Mehta, business head and spokesperson of shaadi.com.
That explains why Monty's still a 'virgin'. Irrfan who played the character to the hilt says, "Monty is actually just too simple and straightforward a guy with zero pretensions who hasn't touched a woman till date in the real sense, which explains why his line of vision can't go beyond the rack. What's wrong in that? Show me one guy who doesn't look at women. It is one of many items on a checklist that men go through in search of the right female. Monty may have had an explicit way of doing so, but that's where he should score. He is honest."
Women have the right to wear anything they want (thank the Lord for that!) without having to feel harassed or degraded by men. But if they opt to look sexy, it's obviously to boost their egos. And how do they boost their egos?
By attracting men's attention. Therefore, women who wear pushup bras and low-cut blouses have no right to complain about men staring at their chests. They can't have their cake and eat it too. Point taken. Irrfan further goes on to say that this cannot be the only criterion for a woman to reject a man.
"One should scratch beneath the surface. It's for the woman to understand that a guy who is professionally successful cannot be such a creep after all. No man is perfect. The first impression cannot in any way be the last impression. Throughout the movie I keep telling that to Shruti as well," Irrfan says.
But would Irrfan be game for an online date? The answer is in the negative. "From what I read and see, the online matrimonial market has really taken off. But personally, I find computers and surfing the net a very boring affair," he concludes.
So, all you Bridget Jones out there on the lookout for a match, think twice before dismissing a guy, just because you caught him staring at your rack. He may be past his sell-by date but he just might be the man for you. Since when have relationships come with a guarantee card? The perfect man is a myth just as the perfect woman is at best a cosmetic truth.
The next time you see a beautiful girl with cleavage showing, don't make the same mistake Monty did. Remember that subtlety is key. Admire her from afar and as she approaches, use the 90° head turn and don't pause in between to enjoy the view.
The head rotation should last approximately half a millisecond... so be quick with your eyes.
Who says men can't be pigs and gentlemen at the same time? Who says Bridget Jones can't get a Darcy?
