Covid-19 surge: Tripura steps up surveillance
Agartala: The sudden surge of Covid-19 has added to the woes of the administration which is already grappling with a heatwave sweeping across the state. At least 10 fresh Covid cases were detected in Tripura in the past 24 hours.
The directorate of family welfare and preventive medicine, Dr Radha Debbarma, said so far, the health department detected five fresh Covid cases from Unakoti district, four from West District and one from the North district which shares an inter-state border with neighbouring Assam and Mizoram.

“The patient from the North district has travel history to Maharashtra,” Dr Debbarma said, adding that with the increase in fresh Covid incidences, the health department has increased the testing of people coming from outside of the state.
“We have ramped up tests to identify the Covid-positive cases. Our main target is to send all the positive patients to home isolation and if anyone has comorbidities then we will refer them to hospitals. Soon, we will make masks and social distancing mandatory again,” she said.
The doctor added that samples of all the patients have been collected and sent to Agartala Government Medical College for genome sequencing to ascertain the variant. However, all the patients have only influenza symptoms, no other complications so far, she added.
