AGRA: A team of doctors of S N Medical College here saved the life of a man who was accidentally impaled by a three-foot long iron rod. The rod which was stuck in the man’s abdomen was removed after a two-hour surgery. This is the first time that such a surgery was performed at the hospital, sources said.
According to sources at the hospital, the rod entered the 28-year-old Kalua’s body near the liver and exited through his intestine.
Kalua is a labourer from Nagla Budi, New Agra. He was impaled by the rod while working at a construction site in Dayalbagh area on Friday evening.
According to his relative, Kalua slipped and fell on the iron rod that was jutting out of a concrete pillar. His co-workers rushed him to hospital with the iron rod stuck in his body. The rod perforated his intestines.
Speaking with TOI, Dr Ankush Gupta, a urologist who led the team of doctors to remove the iron rod from Kalua’s body, said, “The surgery was complex but fortunately, the rod had not penetrated any of the patient’s major organs apart from perforating his intestines. The patient is now stable and we have given him antibiotics to counter any infection from spreading in the body.”
According to sources, Dr Gupta was assisted by Dr Ankush Kishore, Dr Shashank Sharma, Dr Prakhar and Dr Rajeev Puri from the department of anesthesia for performing the surgery.
