NDRF deputy inspector general Mohsen Shahedi announced on Thursday that 20 teams are deployed in Odisha and 17 teams in West Bengal as preparations intensify for the landfall of severe cyclonic storm Dana. More than 170,000 people in affected areas of Odisha have already been evacuated.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds began affecting several districts in Odisha on Thursday as severe cyclone Dana approached the coast, moving at a speed of 12 km/h in the Bay of Bengal.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that at 5.30am, the cyclone was centered approximately 210 km southeast of Paradip, 240 km south-southeast of Dhamara, and 310 km south of Sagar Island, West Bengal.

Health authorities have asked hospitals and healthcare providers to remain alert during any emergency situation that might arise from heavy rainfall in northern and coastal parts of the state under the influence of Cyclone Dana. Govt will make anti-venom injections available at primary health centres (PHCs) to provide immediate relief to snakebite victims.
