UP: Teenager killed in celebratory firing

AGRA: Celebratory firing during a birthday party killed a 15-year-old-year-old girl in Firozabad district.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in Tapa Khurd village under Uttar police jurisdiction. The victim was identified as Sadhana of Shahzadpur village under Karhal police jurisdiction of Mainpuri district. The victim had come to her elder sister Nitesh’s home along with her father Sukhvasi to attend a birthday party when she sustained a bullet injury.
Speaking to TOI, Uttar station house officer Keshav Dutt Sharma said, “During the birthday celebration, Nitesh’s brother-in-law Akash Kumar (20) indulged in celebratory firing.He had borrowed a licenced rifle of his relative Pramod to fire shots in the air. One of the bullets fired from the rifle hit the teenager and she succumbed to her injuries.”
“After the incident, accused Akash and rifle owner Pramod went absconding. Based on victim’s father’s written complaint, we have registered a case against Akash but will also take action against Pramod for handing over his rifle to Akash,” SHO added.
Sadhana’s body was handed over to her family on Monday after autopsy.
