According to the Narcotics Control Bureau, the breakthrough came following a tip off that two persons from J&K had entered Ahmedabad with a narcotic consignment sourced from J&K. The information was further developed and the NCB sleuth raided an apartment in Gomtipur, from where the charas was recovered.
The officials arrested Moinuddin and Nabidas from the spot, subsequent to the seizure, and their interrogation confirmed that they were residents of Anantnag district in J&K and are old hands in this trade. Javed, who was subsequently arrested, is a localite from the Juhapura area and was engaged in local distribution. He was arrested, along with Rs 50,000 cash, when he came to pick up the consignment from the two accused.
During the investigation, it also came to light that the accused had been staying in the city for long. They had sold about 10 kg of the contraband earlier.
During the end of the trial, the accused had pleaded leniency, but special public prosecutor Akhil Desai said drug trafficking was a serious offence that should be stringently dealt with.
