Varma, a Mandvi native, was one of the first Indian barristers to be called to the British Bar in 1884. In 1909, he was disbarred from the Inner Temple for advocating Indian independence. The UK on November 9, 2015, reinstated Verma.
"The PMO has informed that the PM will bring the original papers regarding cancellation of Shyamji Krishna Varma's barrister licence cancellation and the new documents of his licence being reinstated by UK. The documents will be handed over CM who will submit them to Verma's memorial Kranti Tirth in Mandvi."
