AHMEDABAD: Former Gujarat director general of police (DGP), R N Bhattacharya, said on Monday that the IPS Officers' Association had passed a resolution during the 2002 communal riots, appealing their seniors to make the lower rung officials discharge their duty as mandated by the Constitution.
"Due to riots in March 2002, meeting of theassociation could not take place. It took place after over two months when onlyfew sporadic incidents were reported," retired DGP Bhattacharya, said over phonefrom Gandhinagar. "We generally discuss transfers, promotions and other internalmatters. But in 2002 meeting, we passed a resolution asking senior leadership tocommunicate to officers under them about fulfilling their constitutional duty,"Bhattacharya said.
