AHMEDABAD: A 23-year-old jeweller, accused of abducting a doctor, was given bail by city session court on Wednesday. Sanket Soni was arrested by Gujarat University police station officials following a complaint by Shahibaug resident Dr Amrut Patel. Patel had told police that he was blindfolded and taken to Mehsana where he was threatened with a knife. However, Soni’s lawyer Virat Popat told the court that the police had illegally detained him in the case.
“The complaint was filed with Shahibaug police. But without any transfer of complaint, GU police arrested Soni from Vijay Crossroads and detained him for hours” the lawyer told the court.
