NSUI slams GU VC over Delhi trip
Ahmedabad: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) criticized Gujarat University’s vice-chancellor for leading a delegation of syndicate members to Delhi to meet the Union sports minister and present a coffee table book. The protest focuses on alleged misuse of university funds and inclusion of members whose tenure had already ended.
According to NSUI, some syndicate members who accompanied the VC had completed their tenure, including one member whose term ended on May 5. NSUI said they were taken on the Delhi trip at the university’s expense, raising questions about the legitimacy and ethics of the decision.
NSUI alleged that expenses such as flight tickets, accommodation in luxury hotels, and local travel in Delhi were covered using students’ fees. The organization questioned how members with expired terms were allowed to participate in an official delegation and who authorized the expenditure.
NSUI has demanded that the full cost of the trip be recovered from those who attended and has sought a written explanation from the vice-chancellor. The group also suggested that in future, students excelling in sports should be sent as brand ambassadors instead of officials.
