Temple dacoits strike again in Gandhinagar outskirts

Temple dacoits have struck once again in the outskirts Gandhinagar. This time the dacoits struck the Shadra Jakshani temple in Gandhinagar late on Tuesday night. Across North Gujarat almost 21 temple-including Jain temples-- have fallen prey to dacoity incidents in the past four months.

AHMEDABAD: Temple dacoits have struck once again in the outskirts Gandhinagar. This time the dacoits struck the Shadra Jakshani temple in Gandhinagar late on Tuesday night. Across North Gujarat almost 21 temple-including Jain temples-- have fallen prey to dacoity incidents in the past four months.
In the Jakshani temple incident around 25 men-believe to be largely adivasis all aged between 25 and 30 years.

The dacoits hit the temple priest Narendra Raval with sticks-while he was sleeping. A badly injured Ravalk was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. "The investigations are on at the moment and we have some eyewitnesses too," says a senior police official. The miscreants ran away with the donation box, which according to Raval had not more than Rs 2,000. The dacoits had also attacked the temple guard. Police officials say that the dacoits had avoided going into the 'garbhagruh' of the temple where jewelery of the goddesses were safely kept.
