Incessant rains triggered by low pressure batter Nellore and Rayalaseema districts

Incessant rains triggered by the well marked low pressure over the central Bay of Bengal, battered Nellore and Rayalaseema districts for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
Nellore district collector O Anand along with SP G Krishnakanth inspected the breach reported at the Penna bridge on Tuesday and directed the irrigation department officials to immediately plug the breach on a war footing.
The district officials also interacted with the people living in the low lying areas and asked them to stay alert for the next 72 hours as the Met department has predicted very heavy rainfall for the next three days.
Speaking to reporters later, O Anand stated that all fishermen who ventured into the sea, have been brought back to the safety of their homes.
Nellore SP G Krishnakanth told reporters that police personnel have been posted on guard at all important dams including the Somasila project and all major water bodies across the district. He added that the SDRF and NDRF teams were also on standby to meet any eventuality.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to disrupt life for the second consecutive day in Tirupati district as well on Tuesday.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams suspended VIP Break darshan at the Tirumala temple in view of the heavy rains and cautioned the devotees plying along the twin ghat roads in their personal vehicles to drive carefully as the Tirumala ghat roads are prone to landslides in the monsoon season.
While district collectors at Nellore, Tirupati, Kadapa, Annamayya and Anantapur districts are closely monitoring the rainfall scenario from the control rooms set up for the purpose, holiday was declared for all schools and colleges in these districts for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
The civic authorities in these five districts are keeping a close watch on inundation probe areas and have been clearing drains from water clogging too to facilitate smooth flow of storm water in the canals.
