AMRITSAR: Police in Punjab have denied social media claims that shots were fired outside the residence of comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s sister in Amritsar, calling the reports “false and misleading”.
Posts circulating online on Monday alleged that unidentified motorcycle-borne men fired two rounds outside the house before fleeing. The claims quickly spread across platforms, triggering speculation and concern.
However, authorities said no such incident had taken place.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the reports were the work of “irresponsible persons and rumour mongers”, adding that the police had verified the claims on the ground.
In a post on X, he urged people not to share unverified information and to rely only on official updates.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Kamaljit Aulakh also said his team investigated the matter and confirmed that no firing incident had occurred during the night or afterwards.
The rumours gained traction partly because Sharma’s café in Canada, Kap’s Café, has previously been targeted in shooting incidents, fuelling online concern.
Police have appealed for restraint in sharing unverified claims, noting that several prominent residents live in the area, making it more vulnerable to speculation during periods of heightened attention.
