Medical superintendent, sanitation worker land in ACB net for accepting 5,000
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested the medical superintendent of Rural Hospital at Bidkin in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district along with a sanitation worker while accepting a bribe of Rs1,200 from a woman for performing a family planning operation on a woman.The accused have been identified as Dr Vijay Dalvi and Narayan Brahmane. The duo were presented before the local court on Tuesday and have been remanded in three-day police custody.ACB inspector Santosh Tigote, while talking to TOI, said Dalvi had sought Rs6,000 from the patient for the family planning surgery which is to be done free of cost."The family was unwilling to pay the bribe and the woman patient's brother approached the ACB with a formal complaint. After verifying the demand for bribe a trap was laid," Tigote said.After negotiations, 58-year-old Dalvi settled for Rs1,200 towards illegal gratification from the patient and asked to deposit the money with the sanitation worker."We caught the sanitation worker red-handed while accepting the bribe and Dalvi was subsequently held. The bribe amount was recovered and mobile phones of both accused were seized.
We also searched the house of the main accused," Tigote said.Bidkin police have registered an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and started investigating the case.The ACB have appealed to the people to approach them and file an official compliant if anyone is demanding money for getting their work done. —Prasad Joshi
