Schools, junior colleges shut in Latur and Nanded amid heavy rains

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Latur and Nanded district administrations have declared holiday for schools and junior colleges on Friday in the wake of heavy rains that have disrupted road connectivity in many areas.

"About 49 roads have been closed in different parts of the district due to increased water levels of rivers and nullahs. Considering the possibility of more rains during the next 24 hours, schools and junior colleges will have holiday to ensure safety of students," Latur district collector Varsha Thakur -Ghuge said.

Nanded district administration said educational institutions would remain closed considering safety associated with transportation of students.

A total of 48 revenue circles from Marathwada including Latur and Nanded have recorded heavy rainfall of more than 65 mm during the past 24 hours ended by Thursday morning. It has led to overflowing of rivers and nullahs and temporary disruption of road connectivity.

Over 2500 people have been evacuated in Latur and Nanded along with other parts of Marathwada, which has received a yellow alert for several parts on Friday
