Security intensified outside Cockroach Janta Party founder’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar home amid Delhi protest
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Police have intensified security outside the Waluj residence of Abhijeet Dipke, founder of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), as a precaution amid his ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, senior officers said.
The move comes against the backdrop of rising public attention, social media traction, and reported online threats linked to Dipke’s agitation, which has gained momentum over the past few days.
Police commissioner Pravin Pawar said, “The police bandobast has been scaled up at Abhijeet Dipke’s residence in the city, as a part of precautionary measure amidst the ongoing agitation at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.”
Police sources said security at the residence has been increased from a team of four personnel to around 10 policemen now stationed under an officer’s supervision to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Pankaj Atulkar said the decision was taken despite the house being unoccupied. “Since the last couple of weeks, nobody is staying at their home. Still not taking any chance, the bandobast has been scaled up,” he said.
MIDC Waluj police station inspector Rameshwar Gadhe said the deployment is purely preventive. “Dipke’s parents are not currently residing at the Waluj MIDC residence, and we have had limited direct interaction with family members in recent days. Despite the absence of occupants, we have chosen to maintain a visible presence outside the property, considering the attention the protest has attracted,” he said.
Dipke began his agitation at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest has since drawn significant online engagement, with reports of threats, including those targeting his family members.
Special branch inspector Avinash Aghav said such situations often lead to heightened public curiosity and possible gatherings near associated locations. Authorities have accordingly put additional arrangements in place in the locality to ensure smooth movement and prevent any disturbance.
Senior officers said the deployment will be reviewed periodically depending on developments linked to the protest. Police reiterated that the measure is aimed solely at maintaining law and order and preventing any unforeseen situation while the agitation continues in the national capital.
