Son stabs income tax inspector father to death in Latur village, arrested

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 54-year-old income tax inspector was allegedly stabbed to death by his son following a heated argument at their residence in Latur's Khopegav village on Tuesday morning. The police arrested the accused within hours of the incident.The deceased has been identified as Krishnakumar Sanmukhrao, an inspector with the income tax department posted in Latur district. The accused is his elder son, Shantanu Sanmukhrao (29).Superintendent of police Amol Tambe told TOI that the preliminary investigation indicated that a quarrel broke out between the deceased man and his wife over domestic issues. "During the argument, the couple's son intervened, and the argument escalated into a heated confrontation between father and son. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly stabbed his father in the chest with a kitchen knife, resulting in his death," Tambe said.According to the police, the incident took place around 9.45am on Feb 3 at the family's residence in Khopegav, located about 7km from the Latur rural police station. The police added that after Shantanu stabbed his father, other family members raised an alarm, and neighbours rushed to the spot. Krishnakumar was taken to a hospital; however, he had already succumbed to the injuries due to excessive bleeding.The FIR was lodged later in the afternoon by the victim's younger son, Sameer Sanmukhrao (23). In his complaint, Sameer said Shantanu was upset with his father for allegedly not giving money for their mother's medical treatment, and accused him of not taking care of the family. The quarrel intensified, after which Shantanu allegedly picked up a vegetable-cutting knife and attacked his father with the intention to kill, stabbing him below the neck.The police said a case was registered at the Latur rural police station under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was taken into custody, and further legal procedures were initiated.After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites. The police said the incident stemmed from domestic reasons, and the statements of family members are being verified to establish the exact sequence of events.
