Two cops suspended for negligence after Nanded govt hospital killing
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Two assistant sub-inspectors attached to the Bhagyanagar police station were suspended for alleged negligence in duty after failing to prevent the killing of an injured gang member inside a govt hospital in Nanded, the police said. The action followed a preliminary inquiry into the April 4 gang clash in which three men, Arijit Singh Gajanan Chavan (25), Mohammad Arbaaz Mohammad Farooq (23) and Syed Avez Syed Khalil (27), were killed. The violence broke out around 1.30am between two rival gangs led by Arijit Singh Chavan and Sai Singh Deepak Singh Grehwal alias Sai Lala. The police said Arijit and Arbaaz were killed on the spot in the clash, while Avez sustained serious injuries and was first taken to a govt hospital in Wazirabad before being referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Vishnupuri. At GMCH, accused Pradip Chavan allegedly attacked Avez with a sharp-edged weapon inside the hospital premises, leading to his death.Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar said the inquiry found lapses on the part of the personnel on duty. "The preliminary probe has revealed that the police personnel failed to show the required alertness and did not take adequate steps to prevent the attack. Based on this, we have taken disciplinary action," he said.
Police also issued a show-cause notice to the inspector concerned and initiated correspondence with the agency providing security staff at GMCH regarding action against guards present during the incident. SP Kumar said a detailed departmental inquiry is underway and strict action would follow against those found guilty.
