Woman, daughter drown in Jalna quarry

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A woman and her daughter drowned in an abandoned stone quarry at Pandharpurwadi village in Bhokardan taluka of Jalna district, around 75 km from here, on Friday afternoon.The incident occurred around 3pm when Kaweri Dashrath Mohite (30) and her daughter, Sonali (12), went to the spot to wash clothes. When Sonali slipped into the water, Kaweri jumped in to try to save her, but she too drowned. Police said they died before rescue teams could reach the spot."Instead of shouting for help, the woman jumped into the quarry to save her daughter without being aware how how deep the water was," assistant inspector Yogesh Ubale of the Hasnabad police station said.Kaweri and Sonali's bodies were sent for post-mortem to the rural hospital in Bhokardan and later handed over to their family.The police have registered a case of accidental death.
