Bareilly: A Pocso court in Meerut sentenced four men to life imprisonment for gang-raping a 16-year-old minor girl and poisoning her, and also imposed a fine of Rs 25 each on the convicts.
ADGC Avkash Jain said, "The crime took place on April 1, 2021, when the victim left her house around 3:30 pm for tuition classes. She returned at 5:15 pm hobbling, and was in great pain. Before her condition deteriorated, she told her mother that one Lakhan and three others intercepted her and dragged her into a sugarcane field, where they violated her. They let her go after threatening her with dire consequences if she told anyone."
"The girl was immediately rushed to a private hospital and she died a few hours later. The postmortem report stated that a liquid was found in her stomach which could have caused her death," added Jain.
The prosecution produced 12 witnesses before the court, and all the accused were sent to jail after court sentenced them on Wednesday. ADGC Avkash Jain said the court found the accused — Lakhan, Vikas Jatav, Robin and Raja — guilty under IPC sections 302 (murder), 328 (poisoning), 376-DA (gang-rape of a minor), and section 3/4 (2) of the Pocso Act.
