Minor girl climbs water tank after BF refuses marriage; rescued
Pilibhit: Police rescued a 17-year-old girl who climbed an overhead water tank in a village in Pilibhit district around 8.30am on Tuesday after her 20-year-old boyfriend refused to marry her as she was still a minor. The girl repeatedly threatened to jump off the tank, but family members and villagers kept her engaged in conversation for over an hour until police arrived at the spot along with the youth.Police said the girl had been in a relationship with the youth, a resident of the same village, for nearly a year. Officers counselled her and explained that her marriage could legally take place only after she attained the age of 18.The youth was then sent up to persuade her to come down, and he eventually succeeded in convincing her. After being rescued, the girl was taken to the police station, where she was counselled by women police personnel.“She was later handed over to her parents,” the local SHO said, adding that the girl had recently cleared her Class X examination.
