6 killed in 4 districts in house collapse incidents

Bijnor/Amroha/Bareilly: At least six people were killed in four districts of Uttar Pradesh as heavy rain caused houses to collapse across the state. In Amroha, an 11-year-old boy died on Friday while six other family members got trapped after their house in Naugawan Sadat's Nai Basti collapsed. The house belonged to one Shakeel who was away at the time of the incident. His wife Shabnam (32) and children aged 11 to 2 got trapped. The eldest among the children, Haris, died and his body has been for a post-mortem examination. Neighbours and police launched a rescue operation and rushed the injured to the hospital where their condition is critical. Four other houses also collapsed in the district injuring several people. No casualties were reported from these incidents. In Meerut district, two children aged 2 and 4 died while their pregnant mother and brother sustained injuries after their house collapsed from heavy rain. All of them were asleep inside their home in Moor Khurdh village when it collapsed. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital while the bodies of the deceased were sent for autopsy. In Budaun district, Pradeep Kumar, a 20-yr-old man was killed and nine people were injured on Thursday after the thatched roof of a house collapsed in Saraha village. Elsewhere in the district, nine members of a family including three children got trapped after a wall collapsed in Nagariya Abhay village. A local said cement sheets were placed against the wall and the family members got trapped under them when it collapsed. The injured included Madanpal (30), Subhash (26), Bhupendra (18), Guddo Devi (52), Pooja (16), Alpana (24), Elvish (2), Parash (4), and Tanushka (6).In Kheri, a 34-year-old man and his 6-year-old son died after their house in Danapur village in Mituali collapsed. Both were rushed to the hospital where the father was declared dead while the son succumbed to his injuries later. They were sleeping on a charpoy when the roof collapsed. SHO Mitauli police station Raju Rao said, "The bodies were sent for autopsy and the revenue department was informed about the incident. The survivor will be eligible for compensation in this case."In Bijnor district too, two people got injured after houses collapsed. Two houses in Nahtaur regions's Majharpur village had collapsed as the district recorded 85 mm of rain. The incessant rainfall over the last two days has led to water level rising in the district. Several villages also lost their connectivity to the district headquarters as bridges and culverts got submerged under water.Piyush Baliya, junior engineer at the irrigation department said the Ganga is flowing with 1 lakh cusecs of water. Additionally, the Malan, Ramganga, Kho, Pahada, Dhara, Nkata, Kotwali, and other rivers have also swelled. Bijnor district magistrate Ankit Agarwal said all villagers living on the banks of the Ganga and other rivers have been advised to keep a safe distance from the water bodies.
