BANGALORE: In an effort to reassure the anxiety-ridden students, the CET Cell on Tuesday announced a fresh seat- selection process for professional courses from August 7. The cell will first conduct the admission round for engineering and technology courses from August 7 followed by medical seat selection from August 23.
To wriggle out of the mess in the medical admissions, the cell will conduct a "second round (casual vacancy round)" allotment of medical seats from August 23 to 27, which means that all medical seats allotted earlier don''t hold good.

This will also mean the government''s compliance with the MCI regulations which says that admissions after July 31 can be made only under casual vacancy round.
In other words, all candidates with medical ranks from first to last rank should attend the second round invariably, as the seats allotted to them will be modified in accordance with the merit and option of candidates.
It will also include reallotment of seats to 30 candidates, who had selected seats in St John''s Medical College but was cancelled in accordance with the Supreme Court order. During this round, seats newly added by the Medical Council of India will also be offered for selection, a press note issued by the CET Cell Special Officer D.N. Nayak said. However, medical and engineering seats selected under special categories by the physically disabled, NCC and sports quotas will remain unaltered.
The cell has also clarified that there will be no seat-selection process for non-Karnataka candidates for 2004-2005. However, students can approach private professional college managements to claim a seat under the management quota based on the merit list prepared either by the CET cell or ComedK.
