50 shades of anger? Bengaluru woman ties lover’s hands and legs, burns him alive at home
BENGALURU: In a fatal and gory turn to a BDSM session, a woman allegedly tied up her boyfriend, doused him in inflammable liquid and set him on fire at her residence in northwest Bengaluru Tuesday afternoon. She has since been arrested on murder charges.
Prema and Kiran, both 27, were colleagues at a mobile service provider store in Rajajinagar. They were allegedly in a relationship for two years. Possibly out of resentment as Kiran had turned down her marriage proposal, Prema allegedly murdered in Anjanagar in Byadarahalli station limits, police said.
According to police, Prema invited Kiran, from Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumakuru district, home on Tuesday morning after her mother and brother left for work. Scrapping his plans to visit Nelamangala, Kiran went to meet her.
Police said Prema offered to give Kiran a "surprise" and "a good time". She blindfolded Kiran and tied his hands and legs with a rope. When he questioned her, she allegedly reassured him it was "part of an act".
Minutes later, Prema allegedly poured an inflammable liquid — kerosene or petrol — on him and set him ablaze. Struggling to free himself, Kiran died on the spot.
Hearing his screams and noticing thick smoke, Prema's neighbours alerted authorities. Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot. Initially, police suspected it to be a case of suicide, as claimed by Prema. Inconsistencies in her statement and later investigations contradicted her claim.
Investigators found that the accused had purchased inflammable liquid in advance. She allegedly recorded Kiran's final moments on her mobile phone, which has since been seized.
During questioning, the woman claimed she was in the bathroom when she heard a loud noise. Upon sustained interrogation, Prema reportedly confessed to the crime.
"Investigation, prima facie, indicates the woman, in the guise of a romantic interlude, tied the victim and set him on fire. Further investigation is on," a senior officer said.
DCP (North-West) Nagesh DL said the investigating officers are yet to verify the woman's claims as she is changing her statement frequently. Police are waiting for Kiran's parents to lodge a complaint. The body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for postmortem.
