Power line snaps in Kolar, kills boy

Kolar: A seven-year-old boy was electrocuted after a power line snapped and fell on him during heavy rain in Kolar, 65km from Bengaluru, Monday night.

Shaik Takayur Rahaman was standing outside his relative’s house in Poolsha Mohalla at 10pm when tragedy struck. Residents said the area saw intense rainfall and strong winds, which caused power lines to snap in several places.

Takayur was the son of Shaik Imtiaz, a hotel assistant, and lived with his family in the mohalla.

According to sub-inspector Syed Khasim, resident had noticed sparks emanating from overhead wires nearly two weeks ago and lodged complaints with Bescom officials seeking immediate repairs. But nothing was done.

Soon after the incident, residents gathered near the spot, demanding accountability from Bescom.
