BHOPAL: Former Member of Parliament and BSP leader, Sukhlal Kushwaha, who defeated then chief minister Arjun Singh in 1996, reportedly shot himself dead in Satna district on Friday night.
“He had bullet injuries in forehead and died while undergoing treatment at city’s Birla Hospital,” Satna SP Sanjay Kumar told TOI.
He added, “Prima facie it seems he shot himself, but things will only be clear once investigation is done.

The incident took place a few hours ago, so nothing could be said conclusively”.
Sources said that Kushwaha shot himself to death in his house in Satna town.
“We received the information at 9.30 pm, probably few minutes after the incident and he died within minutes of being brought to the hospital,” city superintendent of police (CSP), Satna, Sitaram Yadav said, adding, “It appears to be a case of suicide”.
Kushwaha contested assembly elections and defeated the then chief minister and Congress stalwart Arjun Singh, in year 1996, it was after that defeat that Singh was never again elected for assembly.
