BJP workers were killed and 126 were injured in five road accidents across the state while they were on the way to Bhopal to take part in BJP's mega rally. In two incidents, a 65-year old BJP worker, Manoharlal Jaiswal, was killed and 35 women workers were injured in Sehore district early Wednesday morning.
Jaiswal, who was crossing the road after a four-wheeler carrying party workers from Omkareshwar stopped at a Shri Ram dhaba at Ashta in Sehore district, was hit by a speeding bus resulting in elderly man's death on the spot, police said.
In another incident, a bus packed with woman workers coming from Khargone overturned near Fanda toll tax barrier in Sehore district, leaving 35 workers injured. Of these, 15 were taken to Sehore district hospital and the remaining 20 were shifted to Chirayu Hospital in Bhopal, sources said.
In third incident, two BJP workers, who were travelling by a bus en route for Bhopal, were seriously injured when the vehicle collided head-on with another bus near Dudaseoni in Seoni district on Tuesday night.
In fourth accident, 34 BJP workers were injured when a bus carrying BJP overturned and fell into a river at Kesla village in Hoshangabad district at 6.30 am. Of the injured, Kishan Gaur, 37, a resident of Heera Devi village, was referred to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal in a critical condition, police said.
In the fifth accident, two persons died and 55 were injured when a bus carrying BJP workers from Barwani district collided with a dumper on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Two critically injured persons were referred to MY hospital in Indore.
A resident of Mandideep Amrish Pathak died as his head rammed an electric pole when he peeped outside a bus window near Khajuri on the outskirts of Bhopal . He was returning home from rally.
"The BJP workers were on their way to Bhopal," said Badgonda police station ASI Rajesh Chouhan.
